Microdermabrasion is a non invasive skin procedure that uses small crystals to exfoliate the skin and remove the dry outer layer of the skin, resulting in healthier, brighter looking skin. The device used utilises small crystals to exfoliate the skin while a vacuum sucks up the dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion is also great for circulation, unclogging pores and reducing pore size.
Your dermatologist or therapist trained in Microdermabrasion will prep your skin by cleansing it and will then start the procedure. The hand held device polishes the skin by using a stream of very fine crystals and will then vacuum up the loose skin.
Your skin will be abit pink but this will disappear after a few hours. 24 hours after your skin will feel as if you have minor sunburn. But no need to hide after, you can go about your day as if nothing happened. It is advised not to use any toners or astringents after microdermabrasion as this will definitely sting and burn the skin. Always follow your dermatologist or trained therapist's advice on which type of products to use after your treatment.
So the thought of crystals hitting against your face is rather scary, but know that microdermabrasion is not painless. You will feel abit of tugging or even the sensation when you exfoliate but that’s about it.
Normally you need 6 - 10 treatments every 14 days. It also all depends on the specific skin condition you are looking to improve. Your dermatologist or therapist will know your skin concerns after your first session and will tell you exactly how many sessions you require and how often you need the treatment.
